This page is all about the Records! In Drag Racing it's about the man (or woman) who has the right equipment and the right combination and the right pairing at that particular moment in time! All of the cars on this page have my Dad at the wheel, I know not all these cars were his, but he went through the lights at the other end and thats what counts! it's not the Car, it's the driver who gets the Victory Congratulations Dad... We Miss You
Feb 9, 1962... 50 Years ago almost to the day and with very similar conditions to this Years 52nd Winternationals. Dad marched through the field and came out the other side as the Victor. This was my dad's first National Event Win basically 3 1/2 Years into his 50+ year career.
The 1962 Winternationals in Pomona California were Rain Delayed 1 week, this meant some teams might not be able to compete for a chance at all the marbles, as many teams were not able to stay behind or so some thought... as it turned out roughly 90% of the Teams who made it out to the "Big Go West" were actually on hand to finish out the meet in grand Fashion. My Dad made his mark and scored his first National Event Win at the age of 22.
The first and forth photos above are both taken as part of my dad's First "Feature Article" that appeared in Car Craft Magazine in Sept. 1962 Shot by Bud Lang, the second shot was taken at Lions "I believe by Jim Kelly", the third shot is from Mel Scott (Scott Injectors), and the Last shot is from Bones Balogh. This photo was taken on May 20, 1962, the Scott Photo and the Bones Photo were Supplied by Don Montgomery "Supercharged Gas Coupes"
This will be the first Car of Drag Racing Signifiance I am building, I'm building a replica of this car as a acknoweledgement to my Dad's accomplishments. I have been working on cars my whole life first with dad as a kid in his shop's in Artesia Bellflower Norwalk, Cerritos, we my brother and I have been working on and building cars our whole life. I started out with motorcycles and then moved into Offroad Racing, and have built many cars but now I really want to do what I have always Wanted to do (Build 1/4 Mile Cars) That's where my Heart has always been. This will be my first with many others to follow!
